Obstetric Anesthesia:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The demand for epidural anesthesia for\nlabor and delivery has increased dramatically due to the proven safety and\nbenefits of this resource.  During childbirth, the anesthesiologist\nmanages the care of two patients, providing effective pain relief for the\nmother while maintaining a high degree of safety for her unborn infant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cardiac:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The specialty of cardiac anesthesia has evolved within the past 50 years, requiring a new understanding of cardiac pathophysiology and the interaction with anesthesia.\u00a0 The greatest recent impact on the subspecialty was the contribution of cardiac anesthesiologists to the introduction of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) for intraoperative use.\u00a0 The TEE monitors heart function during surgery, identifies abnormal blood flow between the chambers of the heart, and aortic dissection (tears). Central Wisconsin Anesthesiology, S.C. has a team of physicians fellowship trained in cardiothoracic anesthesiology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Orthopedic:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your surgeon may request that a\nregional nerve block be administered to help manage your postoperative\npain.  The anesthesia for the surgical procedure is a separate component\nindependent of the nerve block. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you receive a single shot nerve\nblock, you can expect up to 4-24 hours of pain relief after surgery, the exact\nduration of analgesia (full or partial relief of painful sensations) depends on\nmany factors.  Single shot nerve blocks are often used for pain control\nafter orthopedic (bone and joint) surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pediatric Anesthesia:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pediatric anesthesiology is a\nspecialty area of practice.  The primary focus of our anesthesiologists\nand CRNAs is to ensure that your child is provided with exceptional care\nresulting in the best surgical outcomes possible.  This is accomplished by\ntailoring specific treatment plans based on your child’s age, size, and medical\nconditions.  Your child’s anesthesiologist will meet with you prior to\nsurgery to answer your questions and address all concerns.

\nAnesthesia outside the\noperating room:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As medical technology has progressed,\nso has the need for anesthesiologists to care for patients during uncomfortable\nor prolonged procedures in locations other than the traditional operating\nsuite.  These procedures frequently include radiological imaging,\nplacement and testing of cardiac pacemakers and defibrillators, cardiac\ncatheterizations and angioplasty procedures (should emergency airway management\nor resuscitation become necessary), gastric endoscopy and lithotripsy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It would be considerably more\ndifficult to perform many of these tests on infants and young children without\nthe use of anesthesia or various sedation techniques.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
